Atmosphere: A Gma Book Club Pick

The beginning of this book was a little slow for me with the technical component. TJR does a great job with completely new subject matter for all of her books but it took me a second to adapt to space plus so many characters. The last 40% was purely amazing. I was crying at the gym literally

The Rembrandt Affair
by Daniel Silva

Daniel Silva never fails to amaze me in his creativity of plots. Gabriel Allon once again manages to save the world. Silvas books each offer a different but similar plot. Rembrandts affair is no different. It is a page turner and it doesn’t fail to please. I hope they start to make a tv or movie series of this character and his exploits.

This book was not what I was expecting but I did enjoy reading it.I liked how the viewpoint shifted from past and present and how it has time stamps at the top of the past chapters. I really loved Henry in the book too. I think I like this more than his previous books.

I didn’t realize this was a book for middle schoolers when I picked it up . That being said the subject matter is very deep, murder, abuse , child lose and grief . I couldn’t gauge the time setting . The 13 year olds have to help out and work crabbing, culling chickens etc and they even smoke cigarettes. I feel it would be hard for children to connect to this book today.

The Disappearance Of Astrid Bricard

Set in the fashion world, primarily in the 1970s but also present day and early 1940s. This is historical fiction but definitely a blend of history and fiction, as the author details at the end. The main characters are fictional but real people abound. Beyond an entertaining story and a mystery, the book is a commentary on how people are portrayed in the media, how their stories and history in general can be shaped by the offhand comments when people don't look further. Good book.

Jane Eyre
by Charlotte Brontë

Once I entered the world of Jane Eyre, I was hooked. I can see why there is longstanding appeal of this romantic novel by Charlotte Bronte. The story of an orphan who survived adversity and emerged heroically never gets old. The somewhat antiquated style of writing was charming and easy to follow. The addition of lines of French monologue in spots only added to the allure of this book. There were copious notes in the back of the book that explained expressions used or elements of history with which the reader may not have been familiar. Though its length of 500+ pages may have seemed daunting, the pages flew by, enveloped by the love story of Jane and Mr. Rochester. Highly recommend.

The Way I Used To Be

The Way I Used To Be was heartbreaking. The plot, characters, and what eventually happens broke me. The main character, Eden was once a spirited young girl until Kevin, her brother's best friend really r her. This is a story that should be shared throughout. The message is clearly worthy. For Eden, that pushed down trauma only hurt her more. She runs away from herself and all she's ever known - her family, friends, home. Her high schools years abruptly shift, until it's too unbearable. It frustrated me because of her silence. She never told anyone. I know that this book taught me a lot.

Twisted and fun. Inspires wine drinking and painting . The ending was a little dull and I kind of wish the “rot” that took over the family was more detailed, for a horror novel I wanted a little more darkness
