The Hyde Park Headsman

While the identity of the killer in this murder mystery didn’t surprise me, I enjoyed this cast of characters and would go back earlier in the series. (This was gifted to me, so I started rather in the middle of things.) I loved hanging out in Victorian London and was sufficiently pulled along with both main and side plots to cruise through the book at a relaxed pace. Made for a nice way to unwind after the day.

Women and Children First

Lucy Anderson is a teenager who dies unexpectedly. But her story is told in an unconventional way: through the stories of 10 other women, all of whom are either loosely or directly tied to her (mother, best friend, classmate, a woman who saw her parents arrive at the hospital, etc.) Set in a small coastal Massachusetts town south of Boston. At first the book felt like it might read more like a collection of short stories (not my favorite), but after a couple chapters it came together. Definitely a different, and interesting, framework for the story. Plus some really interesting insights into human beings.

Okay honestly this book is not for me ! I really liked the scary cover and it is completely unrelated to the book. The book ends with the authors afterward explaining you should read the forward and afterward of his books which shouldn’t even matter . The book is horror and gets gory there s bug people that are Jewish vampire folklore based that become gargoyles with old age. This books just too far out and I only finished it because I was too invested not too. Not a fan

Ex-cop Cal Hooper leaves Chicago after his divorce and moves to Ireland, seeking peace and quiet. Instead, he finds a small town filled with back stories and events he knows nothing about. A local kid comes to him for help—Trey Reddy's brother is missing and nobody seems to care. They develop a friendship and Cal starts looking into the brothers' whereabouts, in the process uncovering all kinds of buried secrets. Suspenseful, but in a slow-burn kind of way.

After Annie

I'm between two and three stars for After Annie. This is a SAD book. It explores the aftermath of the death of Annie, a 37 year woman and those she leaves behind (namely, her husband Bill, her four kids (Ali, Ant, Benji, Jamie) and her best friend AnneMarie.) The names drove me absolutely crazy in this book. They all sounded the same and I found myself needing to reread often. The writing style was also rather confusing too. There was so much abrupt jumping from past to present. I think the book could have benefitted from better organization as well.

It was actually really really good. There was a lot of arguing between the characters, and it’s funny.

What You Are Looking For Is In The Library

4.5 What a beautiful story. I really enjoyed this book and its surprises (I don’t like to give spoilers). The Community House is a surprising place and the librarian, as all librarians are, is magical. I can relate in some way to each story and each one touched my heart. Life’s simple things and what we can do if we think a little differently about our selves and situations. And try new things. And how we interpret stories differently. Libraries are always comforting to me. Sayuri Komachi is a wonderful librarian - she knows what people need. Open up and value ourselves a little more.

One Perfect Couple

A suspenseful survival thriller set on a remote tropical island, during a reality show. The concept is five couples competing to see which one is the most compatible and best suited for each other. But things are weird from the start—some people know each other. Details are scarce and things start to go wrong quickly. An absolute page-turner that will keep you reading—and far more substantial than reality TV!

Decent follow up from book 1. Likable characters. Somewhat predictable ending. Will follow up with book 3

The Wishing-Well Spell

This was the best book! I wanted to keep reading it and was sad it was over. My favorite part was probably when Daisys friend wished to be a grown up, at the wishing well, and she turned into a grown up but she learned she didn’t like being a grown up and she turned small again at the end of the book. She wanted to be a kid. Matilda - age 7
